Persona 4 Golden
This game has a ton of pros. Music, characters, environment, and boy is it got some difficulty spikes. Battles can turn south real quick because of a mechanic known as “1 more”, where if you or your opponent uses an attack against another that the other is weak against you get to act again. Enemy groups can really take advantage of that and it makes for a good difficulty curve. The characters are all very original. Same gameplay loop as other Persona games. Wake up, go to school (this gets skipped over 90% of the time), and then afterwards you get “after school” and “evening” to perform two actions. Either go into the dungeons or something social to get to know the main characters of the game. Very addicting to rank your social levels up to learn more about the characters, and in some cases make them stronger. Dungeons were the only real drawback in this game. They’re all unoriginal and procedurally generated. Super bland.
Overall I’d say 8/10.
Persona 5 Royal really took everything it did well in P4G and did it better, and took things that it didn’t do well and knocked those out of the park too. It’s nice to go back and see how a franchise has evolved like that, so I’ll probably play P3P down the road as well.
